Founding of Stewart IP

Hello everyone,
This is Fraser Stewart, Founder and Director of Stewart IP. It's been a long journey getting here, and I wanted to share that with you, as well as introduce myself to you.
I'm from the UK originally, and I've been living in Taiwan for over 3 years. Before living in Taiwan I was working in the UK as a patent examiner for 8 years. People often ask me why I wanted to come to Taiwan, especially when I had a great job in the UK. Well, the answer to that goes back to 2010. I studied Chinese in Shanghai from 2009 to 2010, and while I really enjoyed my time there, I just felt that China really wasn't for me. I love Chinese culture, and I love speaking and learning Chinese, but I didn't really love living in China. People online suggested I try visiting Taiwan, because Taiwan is a Chinese speaking country with deep ties to Chinese culture, but without a lot of the headaches that come with living in China. After visiting Taiwan in 2010 I fell in love with it. I thought Taiwan was great, and my dream was always to come back here someday.
I got that opportunity in 2022. I felt like I needed a change of scenery and a change in careers. I resigned from my position as a patent examiner in 2022 and found a job teaching English in Taiwan. After doing that for 3 years I was given the opportunity to start my own patent consultancy business, and here I am. It's taken me around 3 months to get all of the paperwork and things finished to finally found Stewart IP. I'm really excited to use my expertise and experience to help Taiwanese SMEs obtain granted patents in the US and other foreign countries. I'm also very excited to hopefully be given the opportunity to educated businesses and Taiwanese people about IP and the costs and benefits associated with it. This is my first blog post. I'll be aiming to post at least once a week with updates and some analysis of interesting patent cases from the UK, and how these cases have helped to shape and define patent law. Looking forward to serving as many of you as possible.
